FEMINISM

 Ileana Yamisely Hernandez Amaya (Feminism)

Before we begin to discuss this important controversial topic, I would like to quote the concept of feminism given by the National Autonomous University of Mexico, in the gender studies program; "Feminism, before being a set of ideologies, political and social movements, feminism is an ethical stance”. Feminism is an ethical stance because ethics tells us how we should or should live, it shows us how a fair society should be for men and women, since the beginning of the controversial feminism questions the inequality between men and women and how men exercised power and domination over women, the equality that is talked about and fought for is based in my personal opinion on morality, we women have a moral aspiration, men and women have the same capacity to think, capacity for autonomy, an equal capacity to play an equal role in society, it means that if both men and women can develop in the same way, why not be equal?, why not be treated equally?

A clear example that men through time have seen women with inequality is Kant the father of democracy pointed to women and had in my opinion a misogynist thought he pointed out that women lacked the rationality necessary for moral duty he said: "The virtue of women is to be beautiful; that of men, to be noble", from here we can see that for the misogynist thoughts of men we are nothing more than apparent beings of beauty and that we cannot offer anything else, it is as if we do not have brilliant mind or apparent strength, courage and thought like that of a man; we must recognize that the feminist movement has advanced notably since the defense of women's rights in the first feminist movement in the formal convention on the Rights of Women that was held in 1848, at this time it had to be recognized that women were citizens and had the right to participate in the community and in politics because just like men we must be taken into account to decide who we want as rulers; then feminism is given and is lived from society in general in the treatment given to women to the daily practices in our homes a clear example of how women and their value as a person is affected is when at home the man exercises domination, exploitation and oppression towards women, emphasizing that only he can work and women should only be dedicated to caring for children or that only they can do the housework and they should not do it and that is where the family follows the same line of a patriarchal institution.

Finally, in my critical thinking I would like to recommend not only to men but to all people in general to become activists of the movement in support of feminism and share the care for women and their value as human beings, help to denounce cases of sexism and harassment, reject gender binarism, demand a culture of equality at work, share equal responsibility. Let us remember that feminism is not an action or movement to draw attention or to exercise more power over men, it is a movement to demand equality for women, to be able to decide freely about ourselves, to free ourselves from oppression and aggression, it is a struggle for economic justice, social change and women's reproductive rights and to become a more just and egalitarian society in which women are given the value they deserve.
